We get a ton of question what that giant bar in the back of the rack is called! Its actually called a trap bar (I have no idea why, maybe because you’re trapped inside of it?)
But why would we use this instead of a conventional bar for deadlifts?
Well it’s actually generally used for back injuries oddly enough. You see the trap bar focuses the weight around the body instead of in front of you, as with a conventional deadlift.
This recruits much more muscle from the quadricep muscle group instead of the posterior (back part of the body) chain. It also puts more weight into the hip so it stresses the back a bit less… which is good when recovering from a back injury!
